No Easy Way to Explain It

"Why is the flag halfway down?"

This can be such a hard question to answer sometimes. I explained about the flag being at half mast to mark important dates and sad things. I told them something really sad happened at a college in Virginia and people died. They wanted to know what happened so I told them to ask their parents when they got home.
